Marie Martinez
Peer Recovery Coach
Hi everyone,
My name is Marie Martinez, and I have been in recovery from alcohol addiction since 2014.
For many years, I was a heavy drinker, and eventually, drinking became an everyday part of my life. I reached a point where I realized I had a serious problem. I remember not being able to wait for my daughter to be born so that I could start drinking again. That moment made me realize that something had to change.
A little background about me: I grew up in a family where addiction was very common. Using substances was considered normal and was often a way of coping with whatever was happening at the time. Because of this, addiction became something I was familiar with from a young age.
Choosing my children over my addiction was not an easy decision. Recovery has been a difficult journey, and I have struggled along the way. However, I continued to push forward and make the choice to change my life.
Today, I am grateful to be here. I am proud of how far I have come, and I hope that sharing my story can give hope to those who may be feeling hopeless. I want others to know that no matter how difficult life may become, change is possible, and recovery is possible.
