  • My 6-month internship with Advocates For Recovery Colorado (AFRC) was a deeply transformative professional experience. I gained essential skills, learning how to effectively listen to participants, ask them relevant questions, and empathetically teach concepts to diverse groups of individuals. Leveraging my own lived experience, I applied these skills by facilitating Eight Dimensions of Wellness content at various Denver non-profits, including the Denver Rescue Mission. My role also expanded to providing crisis support at a local hospital, which I found to be incredibly impactful, planning and executing events and facilitating All Recovery Meetings. This valuable internship confirmed my path toward becoming a Certified Peer and Family Support Professional.  I would wholeheartedly recommend this program because of the supervisor's intentional training and amazing coordination of the intern team, which created an unparalleled supportive environment. AFRC taught me how to harness my lived experience with SUD and translate it into genuine, impactful support for others. -Becky B. (Intern Graduate)
